Using the Vision 2.0 Variable

What gets measured gets done.” – Lord Kelvin, Peter Drucker, and others...

It follows that if you want to take your business to the next level, you need to start measuring something. If your company is trying to break $1 million, $10 million, $50 million or $100 million in sales, you will need a variable to measure.

The power of a Vision 2.0 organization is how types of growth barriers are overcome. The Vision 2.0 Variable gives you a quantifiable way of measuring business transformation success. It helps business leaders measure their progress to the next level of business.

The Vision 2.0 Test

The Vision 2.0 test measures some very basic and key metrics. As an example, the first question on the Vision 2.0 test is about the owner’s vacation time,

“...how much time off can the owner take without getting a call about the business?”

If the owner (department head, manager, team lead or employee) is unable to take a vacation without getting a call, this is usually an indicator of a deeper problem in the organization.

The solution is often counter-intuitive and a barrier for 97% of businesses. Solving this problem will fix the deeper hidden business issues. What we find is that by solving the root problem we can:

  • Put money back into the owners pocket
  • Improve worker productivity
  • Margins improve as business performance improves
  • Allow owners, managers etc. to take their vacation time

The Vision 2.0 Variable

The Vision 2.0 test provides a Vision 2.0 Variable that shows how close the business is to the next level breakthrough.

For example, a Vision 2.0 Variable of 50% means that the organization is 50% from the next level breakthrough. A vision 2.0 Variable of 80% means that the organization is 20% from the next level organizational breakthrough. Each percentage point represents between 30 – 90 days of targeted (low risk) business improvement.

It’s easy to see how how long it should take a business to reach the next business level (Vision 2.0) with a sound strategic plan.

Without the Vision 2.0 Variable the Vision 2.0 test provides, we lose the power of Peter Drucker’s (and Lord Kelvin’s) principle of, “What gets done, gets measured.
